Want to meet Olympic gold medalist diver Matthew Mitcham? Of course you do. Who wouldn't? (Maybe not Bob Costas, who ID'd every single boyfriend, girlfriend, husband, wife, brother, sister, and friend of every major athlete at the 2008 Summer Olympics but never thought to mention the gold winner's boyfriend, who was cheering him on at every stage.)

Well, if you're headed to the Gay Games in Cologne, Germany, July 31 through August 7, keep an eye out for Matthew. He'll be at the games to promote them and cheer on the athletes, even though he's not competing himself.

And why just go to the games when you can be a part of them? Maybe you're not a world-class athlete (although watching the Winter Olympics-and the bearish men in bobsledding-makes me feel like I've found my calling) but you can be an integral part of the Gay Games.

The call is out for volunteers in all areas: interpreters, photographers, medical care, and people to chip in and do the million and one simple and fun things needed for an event of this size to succeed. All you need is to be at least 16 years old as of the start of the games and in Cologne. Up to 12,000 artists and athletes from more than 70 countries will be there, and you can be more than just a spectator. (Not that that's not fun too.)

Go to the Gay Games website and click on "Take Part" and then "Volunteer" for more info. It's fun, you get to meet people from all over the world and get parties, ticket discounts, cool unique clothing and more. Oh, and we asked, and there are masseur positions available. Unfortunately for us, you do have to have some actual training as a masseur to apply. Sigh.
